Dressing Up Your Bathroom
Many of us don’t have the attractive and comfortable bathroom we would like to have. Don’t despair. You don’t have to spend a fortune to turn your bathroom into a dramatic, unique oasis. Here are some frugal techniques to try, to make your bathroom more attractive.
Mirrors are inexpensive and effective in a bath. They open up the room, and reflect both color and light. Remember that mirrors are far more effective if grouped together closely rather than tacked up to the wall in a scattershot manner.
You can use this same idea with pictures or prints. Massing together a grouping of pictures will let your art bring maximum impact.
Consider choosing your pictures with an eye for theme. You can do this via shape, such as pictures in oval frames or long thin rectangle frames. You can also choose a topical theme such as hot air balloons or pets, or a technique theme such as black and white photographs. Be careful if you are going to try this technique in a bathroom that has a shower or tub, high humidity can damage pictures.
Here’s a unique idea: try needlework. There are samplers and other image needlework kits you can get, and a grouping of similar-themed needlework pieces can be most effective grouped together in a bathroom.
A rug on the floor will add color and a sense of comfort. A bright rag rug, or a rich oriental carpet, adds beauty and luxury. Remember to use a nonskid pad under whichever rug you choose, especially if the bathroom has a tub or shower.
Collections are also easy ways to bring visual punch to a bathroom. Try pottery for neat accent pieces that work well in a grouping. You might also try inexpensive but attractive pieces that handle humidity well, such as old bottles, perfume atomizers, shaving mugs, and the like.
Nothing beats color for quick, effective, inexpensive transformation for your bath. Choose a statement color, such as chocolate brown or lavender or melon, and paint an accent wall. This is a very effective way to add drama and impact. If you don’t want to paint walls, you can add bright accent towels and this is also effective. Top off your color burst with some live plants or cut flowers, and you have a vibrant room you can be proud of.
