5 Great Reasons to Redecorate Your Home

Do you feel like you have to justify why you might want to redecorate your home, either to others or just to convince yourself you’re finally ready to take the plunge? If you’re looking for a rationale, consider the following  reasons why you might need to redecorate your home.

1. When Moving into a New Home
When most people move into a new home, they are ready to redecorate. Who wants to live in someone else’s decor, particularly if it doesn’t match your own sense of style? Minor changes such as taking down wallpaper or painting a room a different color can make a big difference in making your new home feel more like your own. The new place will feel even less like a stranger’s once you get your own oak furniture, whether it’s a bookcase stuffed with your reading collection in the corner of your home office or a dining table that’s been the centerpiece of family reunions, moved in and arranged to your liking.

2. Before You Sell Your House
When you decide to sell a house, it’s often advisable to take on projects you’ve never gotten around to, such as updating your kitchen or bathroom. Don’t take on a full redecorating and remodeling project, but try to update your home so that more buyers will be interested. Remember, only do things to your home for which you will see a return once the home sells.

3. The Kids Have All Moved Out
If your last child has officially moved out, you may now be facing empty-nest syndrome. There’s no better way to avoid those empty-nest blues than by redecorating the home. You can start off with a bathroom or even your family room if you’re not quite ready to touch your kid’s rooms yet. Your family room can be transformed into any style of room you want, since it no longer needs to center around your children. The best part about a kid-free home is that you no longer have to worry about valuables being broken or someone dirtying that white couch. Now you’re free to go with the style you’ve always wanted but could never have with kids in the house.

4. You Have Extra Money to Invest
When extra money comes your way, either through an inheritance or perhaps a bonus check at work, it often makes sense to turn around and spend it on your home. What better way to spend that money than to invest it back into your home by redecorating? Plan accordingly, though, so you stay within your budget. You don’t want to end up going over and then having a debt to pay.

5. You have Fallen in Love with an Interior Design
You never know where you’ll be inspired to redecorate your home. You might have been innocently flipping through an interior design magazine at the grocery store and then absolutely fell in love with a room you saw. Perhaps you were at a fabric store and found a new pattern you just had to have. Whatever you have fallen in love with, why not just go for it and create the home you have dreamed of? This does’t have to be a large commitment; you does not have to go crazy all at once and completely change the room. Little things here and there can help incorporate the new style into the room. For instance, you might make drapes out of that fabric you saw and then repaint the walls to complement those drapes.

Redecorating is just one of those things that you sometimes have to just go for. It’s best to just get started or else you may never work up the courage to do it. But be sure to set a budget and stick to it, as you want your new decor to be a source of pride and joy, and not get sick every time you see it because you spent so much money on it.
