Turn Your Home Into an Italian Bistro
Has your kitchen become boring and outdated? If you are ready to update the kitchen, why not try the Italian style of decorating? The overall mood of the style is warm and romantic, with a hint of familial tones. When you are done redecorating your kitchen, it will be anything but mundane and boring.
The ideas offered in this article will help bring warm, earth toned colors, textured finishes and artisan touches to an otherwise common kitchen that is lacking in style and personality. Italian decorating will bring elements of the outdoors to your home!
Walls and Floors
White is not an option in the Italian or Tuscan theme of decorating– especially when it comes to walls or floors. Walls should be painted terracotta or golden yellow since the Italian style has earthy colors at its disposal. Sponge painting can add texture to the walls, creating a certain richness to the tone of the room.
Consider stone or marble floors. Wood floors should be mostly left alone except for a bit of medium toned stain. This style of décor works great with rustic wood surfaces. Instead of painting exposed wood beams stain them like the floors.
You could also hang a large tapestry, designed with a Tuscan theme on a single wall by itself. A large and beautifully textured tapestry with a Tuscan theme would work well on your walls if simply hung on a wall by itself. Intricately detailed patterns and textures in tapestries can add richness and elegance to any room.
Furnishings
In the Italian style of decorating, rustic wood and wrought iron are exceptional choices for furnishings. It is possible to choose from simple wooden benches at the table to more intricately designed wrought iron chairs. Counter tops made of marble are good for adding a rich, elegant touch to the kitchen.
Accents Bring it All Together
Accents will be no problem when it comes to decorating your Tuscan style kitchen. You can usually find Italians preparing slow cooked meals that fill the air with beautiful aromas and scents; try using ingredients as accents! Put things like olive oil and decorative jars of peppers on counter tops or wrought iron wall shelves to accent the room. Wrought iron designs are ideal in this style of decorating, and they add a unique atmosphere to the room.
Wrought iron pot racks are useful and can easily become an interesting focal point for the room. You can use ceramic and terracotta pots accent windows and counter tops if you fill them with herbs and greenery. You can also use small metal buckets filled with herbs and wildflowers as accents. Take it all the way with the inclusion of great Italian wall art and you will have a kitchen that will rival any found in Italy.
With Tuscan décor you are going to combine colors and textures from nature. Warm and welcoming atmospheres can be created using terracotta, golden yellow, soft browns and wine colors. When your kitchen is this beautiful, do you really need a living room? All will want to congregate in the kitchen, where luscious scents linger and good people can enjoy each other’s company.
