Steps to Building a Castle
It has been heard that a man’s home is his castle. It may be old fashioned but as long as money and means are available, a castle can be actually made a home.
It can be very intimidating while thinking to build a castle, each detail or item has to be focused as it comes. First, a large piece of land is needed on which the castle will be built. It is essential to consider the land above sea level. A comparatively flat terrain will make the construction work easy. A grand structure such as a castle needs equally impressive surroundings, so landscapes, mountain ranges seascapes and lakefronts have to be considered.
In fact, modern conveniences and amenities for achieving this dream should not be sacrificed. It has to be made sure that the house is not set up far away from civilization. Besides a perfect location, the local law has to be determined if it actually allows construction of a castle and all the legal requirements have been completed for avoiding disappointment.
Once the location has been identified and selected, the design and the planning to build a castle have to be considered. Of course the construction plans have to be obtained before claiming a land and building permission. Considering the scale of this project, it is better to involve a construction firm and an architect. The blue prints should be detailed in depth. All the measurements have to be included like the size of building stones, higher of doorways and also the parameter for the courtyard. Nothing should be left to chance.
The moat is one of the most unique aspects of a castle. This area has to be excavated first before being lined with the cement. As there is no danger of invasion by barbarians, the man eating crocodiles have to be left out and it should be filled with fishes. An embankment has to be provided for stopping careless people from falling in.
When the moat has been completed, it can be excavated and the foundation for the castle can be laid. The courtyard can be left bare if a rustic look is favored. The cement has to be completely dry before building the walls of the castle. The use of larger stones will make the walls of the castle stronger. However, mistakes will also be not easy to rectify. So it has to be ensured that each of the building blocks has been accurately cut in advance. Portals to the outer world like doors and windows should be put in while building the walls. Wooden beams have to be added for supporting the strong stone blocks.
Electricity and plumbing have to added, these plans have to be included in the original blueprints so that the highly skilled plumbers and electricians will be able to install them without any difficulties. When the castle has been completed, don’t forget to hold a house warming party!
