A Decorating Project is Not a Challenge For Us Anymore

Interior design can be to women what DIY is to men. But instead of wrenches, hammers, nails and an instruction manual you have buckets of paint, plenty of fabric and a lot of imagination. So, if you don`t mind emulsion smell and getting your hands a bit dirty, you are ready for some serious redecorating. A decorating project though, is a daunting task. Besides courage and determination one needs a plan and some basic color skills.

It goes without saying that when you decide to jazz up your home you must do it to your heart`s content. So first and foremost you need a clear idea on how you want your home to look like. Is it a rustic feel you are after? Or you just like to stay in fashion? There are quite few people who go for very specific styles such as an art-deco or a Quaker house but these changes usually take too much time and money since they involve acquiring pieces of furniture that fit that particular style and a great attention to details.

If you work on a budget you can forget about going from one antique shop to another. All you need is a lesson on how to match colors. Using a color wheel in this respect will prove extremely useful. It is generally known that we tend to associate certain meanings to colors. Add the fact that colors were shown to stir physical reactions like higher blood pressure (red) and you have a powerful incentive to choose your paint wisely.

Light colors make your home seem larger but they can also make it look flat or featureless. Add some dark shades for drama. Red sharpens the appetite and it is best suited for the dining room, green and blue on the contrary induce calm and tranquility which makes them perfect for the bedroom. Yellow and orange are the colors of the sun and they inspire energy. So when you pick a color the main question you must ask yourself is what is the room going to be used for? People need to bear in mind that when decorating a room, paint is not everything. You can easily complement the colors with the way you arrange the lights in the room. Lamps can be used instead of overhead lighting to give your space a feel of cosines and warmth.

Once you have made up your mind about how your home should look like do not be afraid to look for inspiration. It may sound ridiculous but many take small objects like a lamp or a pillow box as a starting point.
