Benefits of Installing a Copper Vessel Sink
If you need a kitchen or bathroom that screams uniqueness along with hygiene, there’s really nothing better to choose than a copper vessel sink. These beautiful yet functional furnishings have been around for a long time, and although the mass-produced nature of stainless steel sinks has somewhat supplanted them, they still have a place in the modern home. Not well-versed on the benefits of copper over stainless steel for a sink? Then keep on readin’, because you’ve got a lot of surprises in store.
You might be under the very common misconception that copper sinks are harder to clean than stainless steel ones. In actuality, the opposite is the case. One of the main reasons you might want a sink made of copper is because copper is naturally germicidal. It does a better job killing off harmful bacteria than stainless steel could, all without you having to do anything extra to empower it. All it needs is a light rub with mild soap and water every once in a while, just like any other kind of sink.
The origin of the myth of copper being harder to clean is most likely due to the natural coloration process that occurs as the copper ages. The coloration changes may or may not be something you want, but either way, it has absolutely no effect on the cleanliness of the sink! If you want to maintain the ‘new copper’ hue, a light turtle waxing now and then will keep the metal protected. However, there’s nothing wrong with letting it age and color itself naturally. In fact, many people prefer the aged look.
This brings us to aesthetics. As mentioned above, choosing to allow the copper to age or not gives the owner a personal input into what the sink looks like over time. Furthermore, the uniqueness of a copper sink in and of itself is something that stands out in a room, no matter what the color happens to be. While there’s nothing wrong with stainless steel in and of itself, and indeed you can hardly avoid it in most kitchens and bathrooms, wouldn’t it be nice to have a few different things in place for simple contrast?
Copper sinks give that special antique feel without actually being significantly more expensive to use than stainless steel sinks. With prices so reasonable, there’s nothing between you and having a completely special, one of a kind, exceptionally clean kitchen or bathroom… besides your own inertia, anyway. Why settle for the same kind of sink everyone has when it’s so easy to differentiate yourself? The upkeep isn’t any worse, the price isn’t worse, the practical germ-fighting qualities are better, the looks are more interesting. There is literally nothing to lose by getting a copper sink, unless you’re completely content with having the same kind of sink the rest of the world has.
