There is beauty, elegance and boldness in the Asian style of decorating. This is the perfect style for anyone looking to make a great impression with a home that displays style and demands attention. This style might turn away those inclined towards relaxed tones, but it is defiantly one for those who adore the bold and dramatic! With the tips in this article, your home will be transformed into the envy of all that enter.

As surprising as this may sound, simplicity is one of the many things Asian décor has to offer. Eliminating clutter is no problem since furniture and accessories are kept to a minimum. Visual impact comes greatly relies on the use of bold and dramatic colors in the separate pieces.

Use of Bold, Dramatic Color
Asian décor usually uses red, black, gold and shades of tan, brown and grey for color, particularly in Japanese style decorating. A black lacquer that shines like glass is often used on furniture. Gold is a good choice for walls and trim.

Incorporating Texture
Natural texture is customary in Asian décor. Bamboo is of common use in furnishings, window coverings and plant containers. Using natural rock adds to the drama of the décor, and wall prints can contain paper surfaces. Containers adorned with shades of red and gold are ideal for placing bamboo plants.

Oriental Rugs are a Must
You cannot hope to complete the look and style of Asian decor without the addition of oriental rugs! Contrary to many other styles of décor, the Asian style relies heavily on the floor. Whether the floor is covered with an exquisite floral wool rug or a tatami mat, the furnishings are used for complementing and drawing out the colors on the floor.

Screens and widow accents are also elements of importance in this style of décor. Covering unattractive spaces or dividing the room can be done simply with the use of a Shoji screen. The screen can also be used to block the views for a window. These elaborately decorated screens are of key importance to the oriental theme.

The windows themselves are kept basic and plain in order to provide a balance to the unique flooring and furnishings. Simple accents, bamboo and wooden blinds; these are all typical characteristics of windows. If the furniture is tan, grey, or other neutral colors, the accents on windows may be gold; the Chinese often use window accents that include tassels.

Serenity and peace are just as important when decorating in the Asian style as drama and bold colors are. Bold accents and the natural elements should be used together, while keeping clutter to a minimum. You rooms will appear to be more enticing and dramatic, while keeping a and serene tone at the same time.

Take note of the décor the next time you find yourself in an oriental style restaurant. Examples of this beautiful style of décor can help you figure out how to better use this look in your own home, and finding these examples is as easy as going online. Asian décor is the best way to go when it comes to sheer elegance and enticing environments.

Do you often feel that something is lacking when you walk into your home? Sometimes things just look dull, flat, and even a little boring. People often make the mistake of decorating their home in white, beige, brown, and other bland, monotonous colors. For personality and interest, a room needs to have some color. Whether you choose to add little splashes here and there or big bold accents, color can really change the way you look at your home.

You want your home to have some personality. You want the décor to be vibrant and to attract the eye. You won’t be able to spark much interest with lifeless colors such as beige and white. Although you don’t necessarily need colors like bright red and passionate purple, a few great colors can really liven the place up. You too can use color to transform your home from drab to dramatic. Here are a few tips to get you started.

Transform the Walls
Painting your walls is one of the biggest transformations you can make while staying within your budget. Before you start, though, you need to figure out what colors you’re going to use in your furnishings and accents. After all, you want all the colors to complement or contrast one another. Consider bright greens, peaches, yellows, and blues if you love springtime hues. Hang a botanical print on that spring green wall to add a cheeriness to the room that is hard to ignore.

Whatever colors you end up going with, try painting only a wall or two, leaving the rest white. What this does is add depth and dimension to the room. Paint the baseboards with either a contrasting color or a much deeper shade of that same color.

Floors Are for More Than Just Walking!
When decorating your home, don’t forget to include your floors in the big picture. Whatever flooring you have—whether it’s wood floors, tile or carpet—can be dressed up. Liven up those wood or tile floors by topping them with brightly colored accent rugs in strategic areas. Add rugs with patterns that reflect the rest of your décor. Go with florals, plaids, abstracts, or geometrics—whatever suits your decorating style. You can use area rugs even if you only have carpeting. A rug would look great placed in front of the couch or in the center of a furniture grouping where you often entertain.

What About Furnishings?
This is where the fun really begins. People often believe that patterns shouldn’t be mixed and matched. However, if you have a floral sofa containing bright hues of green, yellow, and blue, it’s perfectly acceptable to add striped and plaid throw pillows containing the same colors. You’ll be amazed by the result, which is simply stunning. You can also get a big bold splash of colors with some throws or tapestries. Large throw pillows with loud patterns, colorful throws, and brightly colored quilts can pick up any solid colored furnishings.

With color and pattern, you can liven up any dull look. Figure out what colors you love and use your imagination. All you need is some paint, a few area rugs, throw pillows, tapestries, and other accents.

Color allows you to add personality and energy to your home without spending a lot of money. For very little cost, you can completely transform the look and atmosphere of a room. Big splashes of color can really make an incredible difference. Go ahead and be daring, and you’ll ensure that you’ll never walk into a boring room in your home again.

Are you looking for a kitchen bookcase for your dorm or a tv stand for your media center then they probably have everything you need.

Let’s face it – one of the hardest rooms to decorate in the home, that is also one of the most used by guests, is the bathroom. How can the room be livened up and be given character? There are many things, some that you probably haven’t even heard of, that can be done. The tips and ideas in this article will help create ambiance, interest and even a little romance in the bathroom.

Whether you have a bathroom that is large and spacious or very small, it can be made to look beautiful and appealing.

Liven up the walls

White paint may be the only thing you have in mind for decorating your bathroom walls, especially if it’s on the smaller side. Solid colors should be kept on the light side if you’re going to use them. Although, if you want to use a pattern or design, rich hues of amber, burgundy and gold are perfect, along with any other colors that may fit your décor. A smaller bathroom can actually be made to look visually taller by using vertical stripes. The stripes can either be painted manually or you can use a wallpaper that has a wide stripe.

Rubber stamping is another great idea for the bathroom, as it lets you place any design you want on the wall. Adding some texture to a room can be done quite effectively by using the very popular faux finish technique.

Lighting sets the mood

Using two different kinds of lighting in a bathroom is usually necessary. Bright lights around the vanity mirror is very common, it helps people see easily in order to shave, apply make up, etc. Low wattage ceiling lights are great for adding romantic ambiance to a large bathroom.

Achieving the effect in a smaller bath is possible by placing a sconce on one wall and using a 60 watt bulb. This will provide a nice atmosphere for when you simply want to come home and relax in the tub after a stressful day.

Time for a few personal touches

Now that you’re done with the walls and lighting, it’s time to add a few accessories to the room in order to add some appeal. The items and objects used in the room should reflect your personality, such as an old trunk topped with some of your favorite accessories, if space permits, or a large boldly-colored vase filled with greenery.

Use your imagination and creativity! Not much interest is being added to the room if all you have is a soap dish and toothbrush holder. Add further splashes to the room by using the most luxurious towels you can afford for display.

Accenting is something most people don’t think about for a bathroom, but it can add some character to the room and it’s great for rooms that aren’t too small. You should hang sheer panels from the ceiling and have them drape softly around the edge, getting them pulled back to the wall about 8 inches above the tub’s edge. Two full sized mirrors should be placed on the walls around the tub, and man, talk about romance! Imagine the flicker of a candle being reflected in the mirrors as you relax in a tub that is filled with rich, soothing oils.

With only a bit of imagination, you’ll have what is necessary to make the bathroom beautiful in an endless amount of ways – and your decorating sense will amaze your guests.

Years ago, when it came to decorating your home all your furnishings, fabrics and colors had to be in complete harmony. You can create a look that is unique and simply stunning no matter what you have in your home. You should get rid of any preconceptions that everything in the room should match. An eclectic style of décor allows you to create rooms that burst with interest and personality.

This style of decorating is great for people that don’t have the money to go wild and completely redecorate their home. First off let’s start by finding any hidden away furniture or accent pieces in the attic, basement or storage shed.

Mix and Match Furnishings

Do you have a modern sofa and an entertainment center or china cabinet with country appeal? Don’t worry. When it comes to eclectic décor, you can do almost anything! Some of your items may be simplistic, while others are more on the elegant side. These exact things are what make the style so interesting and help differentiate it from everything else.

Using colors that contrast and complement each other is the secret to pulling it all together. For example, if you have a mahogany china set filled with pastel colored items, then those pastels can be matched in a chenille throw for a sofa. Even though you may have great variety in style when it comes to the furnishings, the color will flow continuously through the room.

Accessories Add Flair

Eclectic decorating call for the use of fun items that show off your personality. From funky mirrors, to beaded fringe and exotic plants, do what feels right. Put any of your porcelain tea sets or wooden schooners on display in a corner designed to show off your collection if it’s your passion. The fabrics and textures you use should be mixed and matched. Paint your lamp shades and even the base of the lamp if you simply feel like it. Creating this unique and interesting look should be a fun experience.

If you want to mix and match colors and patterns, eclectic décor absolutely allows for it. You might simply use blue, burgundy and cream. These colors should be used throughout the room, and don’t be afraid of adding a bit of forest green if you like. Go ahead and use light and dark shades of each color if you want. You can add a vibrant touch to the room and give it an extra spark if you mix plaids, stripes, florals and solid patterns.

Any funky artwork, thick throw pillows or unique knick knacks found at flea markets are great additions to the eclectic look.

You want to create rooms that are interestingly mixed, you don’t want them looking like they were simply thrown together. Remember, color will pull it all together; so use up to three different styles of décor and pull the effect together. You can use fun pillows, decorative throws and accent rugs to pull color from all around the room.

If the rooms you create are to look and feel original and unique, you need to throw in a bit of yourself, creativity and all. Why would you stick with something boring?

By any chance, could your home use an update? Perhaps your home is older, or maybe the look is just tired. Nonetheless, it’s possible to make your home look as though it’s been remodeled without spending much money at all. Your home is supposed to be your castle. Thus, you want it to be as welcoming, comfortable, and appealing as possible. Here are some super easy tips for giving the interior of your home a much-needed facelift while staying within your budget.

Painting: The Cheapest and Easiest Way to Transform a Room
While painting isn’t everyone’s favorite job, think of the beauty it can create in a décor. You can really liven things up, especially if your walls are an average off-white or some other drab color. To really make a statement, paint one or two of the walls a bold or bright color that blends with the overall color scheme. If you have furniture pieces that have seen better days, why not paint them? Your ragged coffee tables and oak end tables will take on an entirely different look with a little paint and some stencils.

Take a Good Look at Your Furniture
How does your furniture look? Perhaps you are tired of things being so congested or just sick of the overall style. It’s time to take a long, hard look at the room. Could you possibly remove a few pieces that you never use? This way you can give the room a more open and airy feel and appearance by opening things up.

Slipcovers are a great option if you cannot afford new furniture. These days, you can find a variety of styles that allow you to create entirely new-looking furniture at a much lower cost than buying new. You also might consider repurposing the furniture. This is especially handy if you have a piece or two in other rooms that are never used. They can be painted and used as storage for games, toys, and all those other things that you often find strewn all over your home.

Add Color, and You Add Life
When it comes to bringing new life to the interior of your home, there isn’t enough that can be said about the use of color. Color both attracts the eye and creates different moods in a room. Soft colors relax things, while bright colors energize. If you have a monotonous color scheme, consider the addition of exciting color splashes. Find some attention-grabbing wall accents, or add brightly colored and intricately patterned throw rugs and pillows. You won’t believe how your room is transformed when splashes of color are used to break up the boredom.

Accessories Make the Difference
It’s common knowledge that accessories are the “jewelry” of the home. However, it’s important to know how to use them. With too many accessories, your home will look cluttered and disorganized. If you have too few accessories, it will have a cold, blank, and indifferent tone. Thus, it’s important to find a balance.

By simply adding some accents, you can give a large room a more personal, intimate feel. For instance, place a number of accents in a grouping on one large wall. Just the opposite is true for those smaller spaces. Here, an oversized decoration such as an intricately patterned tapestry should be placed on just one wall.

If you want to totally transform the look of your rooms, put these tips to work. And don’t forget the added bonus that everyone loves—it’s not going to cost you a bundle to create those wonderful spaces!

If you have a living room that is on the smaller side and you want to make it look more spacious and open don’t worry, you can easily accomplish this. You can make a room look and feel bigger than it actually is by simply using right color, furnishings and pattern. A room can be made to look nearly twice as large as it actually is with decorating, as there are many ways to “trick” the eye. The tips and ideas offered in this article will help you give the room more appeal and visual space.

Light colors equal space

Lots of people know that a room can be made to look more spacious with the use of lighter colors, while darker colors look heavier and tend to make the room look smaller. This doesn’t mean that boring off-white or cream needs to be used on your walls. Light, soft shades of green, yellow or any pale color can be used. You can use accessories to add small splashes of darker colors and add depth and interest to the room.

Increase the height of the room

Simply how? You can accomplish this easily by using a vertical striped pattern on the wall. Use a wallpaper with a striped pattern if necessary, but if you can paint the stripes yourself, do it. Placing pictures and other wall décor is something to consider, as well as using crown molding where the wall and ceiling meet in order to pull the eyes upwards.

Light up the room

A room that is dark and gloomy simply looks smaller than one that offers lots of natural or artificial light. Allow plenty of light to flow through the room using blinds, curtains or other window treatments if you have lots of windows. Otherwise, if you need to add more light to the space, use table lamps, floor lamps or track lighting.

You also want to be sure to keep pathways that come into the room as open as possible. Try to not block doorways with furniture or accessories. In order to make the living room more inviting consider creating more intimate spaces where you can entertain guests by arranging the furniture at an angle, or placing you sofa, love seat and chair around a nice area rug.

It is best to use sleek and scaled down furniture in place of heavy, bulky looking items in a smaller room. You also need to avoid complex patterns that are simply loud and busy. Go with smaller patterns, or stick with something basic and add interest through fabrics and textures.

Remember, a beautiful mirror can work wonders. Mirrors can make your living room appear twice as big if you place them to reflect light from a window. If you don’t want a cluttered look, keep accessories to a minimum; simply use a few key accents to breathe life into the room.

If you put these ideas to use, you’ll create a welcoming and beautiful living room that looks more spacious than it actually is. Using the right colors, patterns and light, it’s quite amazing what you can accomplish. Remember you want it all to be light, airy, bright and uncluttered – it’s quite easy!

Have you ever walked into your home and just felt like something was lacking? Do things just seem to look dull, flat, and a little boring? Often people mistakenly choose to design their homes using white, beige, brown, and other bland, monotonous colors. For a room to have personality and interest, you need color! Color can really change the way you look at your home, whether it’s with little splashes or big bold accents.

You want your home to have some personality. You want the décor to be vibrant and to attract the eye. Colors that are lifeless, like beige and white, do little to spark any interest. A few great colors will really liven up the place, although you certainly don’t have to use dramatic colors such as bright red and passionate purple. Here are some great colors tips to help you transform your home from drab to dramatic.

Transform the Walls
Painting your walls is one of the biggest transformations you can make while staying within your budget. Before you do anything at all, however, you first need to determine what colors will be used in the furnishings and accents. All your colors should either complement or contrast one another. If springtime hues are your thing, consider using bright greens, peaches, yellows, and blues. If you go with spring green, hang a botanical print on that wall for a cheery, springtime feel.

Whatever colors you end up going with, try painting only a wall or two, leaving the rest white. This gives the room some real dimension and depth. You might also paint the baseboards a contrasting color or a much deeper shade of the same color.

Floors Are for More Than Just Walking!
When looking at the complete picture, people often neglect to include their floors. Can wood floors, tile, or carpet be dressed up? Of course they can. A wood or tile floor looks great when topped with brightly colored accent rugs in strategic areas. Just be sure you’re choosing patterns that reflect the rest of your décor. Floral, plaid, abstract, or geometric patterns all work—whatever suits your style of decorating. If you have carpeting in your home, you can still use those area rugs. They can be placed in front of the couch or in the center of a furniture grouping where you often entertain.

What About Furnishings?
Here’s where you can really start to have fun. Many people assume that you shouldn’t mix and match patterns. But if you have a floral sofa containing bright hues of green, yellow, and blue, don’t be afraid to add striped and plaid throw pillows containing those same colors. The resulting look will be stunning and will simply amaze you. Add in some throws, tapestries, or anything else that will give you a big bold splash of color! If you have solid-colored furniture, then use large throw pillows or blankets with loud patterns. You might even hang a brightly colored quilt over the back of the sofa.

With color and pattern, you can liven up any dull look. So get going and use your imagination, incorporating all the colors you love. Get busy with some paint, a few area rugs, some throw pillows, a couple tapestries, and any other accent you can think of.

With color, you can infuse your home with energy and personality without spending a whole lot of money. Isn’t it amazing how the look and atmosphere of a room can be completely transformed for very little cost? Ultimately, big splashes of color offer lots of bang for your buck. Go ahead and be daring, and you’ll ensure that you’ll never walk into a boring room in your home again.

When it comes to the den or family room, it is usually less formal and geared towards use for the family when it comes to reading, watching television or other activities. Your den shouldn’t be decorated to impress others, it should be decorated in a way that you want; this way you will feel comfortable and relaxed in it. You will be able to make a room that is special and meant specifically for the family if you follow the tips and ideas in this article.

For some, a large and spacious den is the answer; for others, the den or family room must feel small and cozy. You will get some great ideas from this article either way.

Furniture

A sofa, bookshelves and a couple of chairs with ottomans should be included in every den. Consider floor to ceiling bookshelves flanking both sides of a fire place if you or someone in your family has a thirst for reading. You can keep your television in an armoire so that it doesn’t have to be seen when not in use. Consider putting an entertainment center or office set-up in one corner of the room if your family is the type that often plays games, uses the computer or listens to music.

Accents and Accessories

Plants can add attractiveness to any room, and the den is no exception. Use greenery to decorate your room, and also take several light sources into consideration for those who love to read. You can make the perfect place to cozy up and read a book by placing a floor lamp beside a chair. The cozy, relaxed atmosphere can be further enhanced by putting table lamps on each end of the sofa Overhead light can be harsh and glaring, and should be avoided. The pictures and prints that you decorate your walls with should reflect your own tastes and personality.

Color Choices and Window Treatments

You should choose colors that you love for the room since it’s used mostly by family. If light, neutral colors are to your liking, then by all means go for it! Deep blues, rich burgundies and other darker hues might just be the colors you are into. These colors will work just as well; though, they most likely will make the room appear smaller since they are darker colors.

When it comes to the windows you have all the freedom you want when choosing you blinds, shades, drapes or curtains. You should go for mini-blinds or shades in light, neutral colors if you are going for a light and airy appearance for the room. If a more private room is to your liking, then heavier drapes or boldly patterned curtains are something that you would want to go with. You will probably want to think about using wood shutters that you can push back whenever you want.

Darker upholstery and leather are great with light walls. You can further add depth and interest to the room by using any tones that complement or contrast each other. Remember, this room should be made your own; you’re making it specially for you and your family to enjoy. If you truly want a room that you will enjoy and find relaxing after a hard day’s work you should use all of the colors, fabrics and accessories that are your favorites.

Do you have a living room that’s on the small side? If you do, and you want to make it look bigger and more open, you can do that pretty easily. You can make a room look more spacious than it actually is with the right use of color, furnishings and pattern. You can do many things to “trick” the eye and make the room look nearly twice it’s size with decorating. The ideas in this article will help you make your living room look more appealing as well as make it look larger.

Light colors equal space

Most people know that using lighter shades can make a room look more spacious, while darker colors tend to visually diminish the size of the room. This doesn’t mean that boring off-white or cream needs to be used on your walls. Light, soft shades of green, yellow or any pale color can be used. Depth and interest can be added to the room with the help of accessories that add small splashes of darker colors.

Increase the height of the room

How can you do this? It’s simple, use a vertically striped pattern on the wall. If possible, paint the stripes yourselves, or use a wallpaper with a striped pattern. Placing pictures and other wall décor is something to consider, as well as using crown molding where the wall and ceiling meet in order to pull the eyes upwards.

Light up the room

If a room has plenty of natural or artificial light, it will look larger than one that is dark and gloomy. If you have many windows, you can allow plenty of light to flow through the room by using blinds, curtains or other window treatments. Though, you can use table lamps, track lighting or floor lamps to add more light if you need to.

You also want to be sure to keep pathways that come into the room as open as possible. Be sure to not block doorways with accessories or furniture. The living room can be made more inviting by simply placing furniture at an angle, or you can create an intimate space to entertain guests by arranging your sofa, love seat and chair around a beautiful area rug.

Using furniture that is scaled down and sleek, instead of furniture that is heavy and bulky looking, is best with smaller rooms. You also want to avoid loud and busy complex patterns. You can add interest through fabrics and textures or go with a small pattern.

Don’t forget that a beautiful mirror can work magic. You can make the living room appear twice as large by placing mirrors so that they reflect light from a window. Avoid a cluttered look by keeping accessories to a minimum and using only a few key accents to liven up the room.

If you put these ideas to use, you’ll create a welcoming and beautiful living room that looks more spacious than it actually is. What you can accomplish is pretty amazing if you use the right colors, patterns and light. Remember you want it all to be light, airy, bright and uncluttered – it’s quite easy!
