The bathroom is a room in which we spend a good amount of time in, but it is often an under dressed room. Few accents and white walls make most baths appear like those of a hospital’s. This room is about showering, shaving and relaxing away the day’s stresses in the tub. Why not make this room look and feel more interesting? This article will offer tips that will help add appeal to your bathroom.

Most guests visiting your home will see your bathroom, so remember to make the most of it. No matter if your bathroom is small or spacious, many things can be done to give the room a new look.

Tips for Small Baths
Do you have a small bathroom that is only large enough for the necessities? You can visually open up space in the room by painting the rooms a light and soft pastel color. Most visible items should be colored in light hues, like shower curtains and towels. If you have any items jutting out from the walls, or shelves, remove them. The result of this will be straight, clean lines, which will lead to a more spacious look. Brighter lighting and additional mirrors to reflect light should be taken into consideration.

Floors also follow the same rules about being light. Light colored linoleum or ceramic tiles will make the room seem more spacious than before.

Have a Large Bath?
A larger bath provides you with more options. A rich, elegant look, can be given to the room with the use of dramatic color and wall accents. A bathroom looks beautiful with burgundy walls accented with deep hues of blue and green. Keep your shower curtain, towels and other fabrics in coordination with the walls. Framing your vanity mirror with molding will give it extra appeal. Stripes and bold florals fit in well with a spacious bath.

Larger baths can benefit from bold and dramatic floors. Intricate designs on ceramic tile help to add more depth and a rich, warm appeal.

Accents
No matter the size of the bath, depth and interest can be added to the room with pictures. Prints should be kept light colored in a small bathroom, with either metal frames or no frame at all so that things stay light. However, large prints with dramatic and embellished frames will work well in a larger bathroom.

Minimize clutter in small bathrooms. Leave the top of the vanity bare, storing all necessities such as toothpaste, shaving cream and lotions stored underneath. This will help achieve a clean, open look. Plenty of plants, along with color coordinated candles can help make a larger bathroom look beautiful. You can also make the room smell wonderful with candles.

No matter the size of your bath, consider adding patterns to the walls with stencils, or a feather duster to create soft abstract patterns Colors should always be kept light in a small bath though.

Give your bath the attention it deserves! Visitors will be impressed when they see this often frequented room made comfortable and stylish. These tips and ideas will ensure that your bathroom is anything but ordinary and dull!

Has your kitchen become boring and outdated? If you are ready to update the kitchen, why not try the Italian style of decorating? The overall mood of the style is warm and romantic, with a hint of familial tones. When you are done redecorating your kitchen, it will be anything but mundane and boring.

The ideas offered in this article will help bring warm, earth toned colors, textured finishes and artisan touches to an otherwise common kitchen that is lacking in style and personality. Italian decorating will bring elements of the outdoors to your home!

Walls and Floors
White is not an option in the Italian or Tuscan theme of decorating– especially when it comes to walls or floors. Walls should be painted terracotta or golden yellow since the Italian style has earthy colors at its disposal. Sponge painting can add texture to the walls, creating a certain richness to the tone of the room.

Consider stone or marble floors. Wood floors should be mostly left alone except for a bit of medium toned stain. This style of décor works great with rustic wood surfaces. Instead of painting exposed wood beams stain them like the floors.

You could also hang a large tapestry, designed with a Tuscan theme on a single wall by itself. A large and beautifully textured tapestry with a Tuscan theme would work well on your walls if simply hung on a wall by itself. Intricately detailed patterns and textures in tapestries can add richness and elegance to any room.

Furnishings
In the Italian style of decorating, rustic wood and wrought iron are exceptional choices for furnishings. It is possible to choose from simple wooden benches at the table to more intricately designed wrought iron chairs. Counter tops made of marble are good for adding a rich, elegant touch to the kitchen.

Accents Bring it All Together
Accents will be no problem when it comes to decorating your Tuscan style kitchen. You can usually find Italians preparing slow cooked meals that fill the air with beautiful aromas and scents; try using ingredients as accents! Put things like olive oil and decorative jars of peppers on counter tops or wrought iron wall shelves to accent the room. Wrought iron designs are ideal in this style of decorating, and they add a unique atmosphere to the room.

Wrought iron pot racks are useful and can easily become an interesting focal point for the room. You can use ceramic and terracotta pots accent windows and counter tops if you fill them with herbs and greenery. You can also use small metal buckets filled with herbs and wildflowers as accents. Take it all the way with the inclusion of great Italian wall art and you will have a kitchen that will rival any found in Italy.

With Tuscan décor you are going to combine colors and textures from nature. Warm and welcoming atmospheres can be created using terracotta, golden yellow, soft browns and wine colors. When your kitchen is this beautiful, do you really need a living room? All will want to congregate in the kitchen, where luscious scents linger and good people can enjoy each other’s company.

A small room shouldn’t lack in style for that simple reason. There are plenty of ways that you can make your room look more stylish and make it functional through decorating. This article will provide you with the necessary tools to tackle a small room in a house or apartment and help you utilize the space in the best way possible while keeping it looking great.

Paint an Accent Wall
Think about painting a wall to act as an accent wall, if you want this simply paint the wall in a bold color. Doing this will make the room appear larger while giving it a stylish feel at the same time. Ensure that the color of the other walls is complementary to the color of the bold wall so that it doesn’t seem out of place.

However, you should stay away from dark colors. If the accent wall is going to be painted in a bold color you shouldn’t choose black, dark blue, red or dark green. Instead a color like pink, yellow or aquamarine will work perfectly. Painting a small room in dark colors only visually diminishes the size of the area.

Choose Furniture that Fits the Size of Your Room
Furniture should be in scale. This means not putting a huge sleigh bed in a small bedroom. The family room follows the same rules. The pieces you find should well in the room without dominating the area it is placed in. Bumping into every piece of furniture while you’re walking around would be a problem and is something that you definitely want to avoid.

Find Furniture that Works as Storage, Too
You should also look for pieces that can pull double duty, especially when working with a small room. Wooden chests and similar pieces are great for pulling double duty as they can be used like a coffee table or side table and can also be used as storage for other items in the room. This way you will be left with more room and you will have extra storage space in a small area

Utilize as much vertical space as possible in your room. So much more storage are and design space can be added when you maximize the height of your walls. You can get a great vertical storage space out of pieces such as bookshelves and armoires.

Shelving attached to the wall is another perfect idea. Design and functional space would be the functions of the shelving. The shelves are the right place to add style to the area if you place some of your knickknacks and books in an interesting manner.

Let in Some Light to Open Up a Room
Your room should get as much natural light as possible. A room looks bigger and brighter with natural light. Keep your window treatments simple with something like a pair of plain drapes or blinds. Reflect light in the room and make it look larger by adding mirrors to the walls.

Choose Lighting that Doesn’t Overwhelm the Space
If the lighting fixtures hang or are very large you should avoid them. Track lighting is a good idea to go with because it will keep the room well-lit while not taking up much space.

You shouldn’t have to work too hard and be bored when you are decorating a small space. If you keep things simple and functional while adding small aspect of your style to the room, you will begin to really enjoy your small space as much as possible.

Nearly every home owner with a small bathroom wishes they had made the room larger during the construction of their home. Even if they purchased a resale, if the bathroom is small, it can be problematic.

While you may not be able to afford a complete remodel, there are many things you can do to give the room a more open, spacious appearance. In fact, it can be made to look quite a bit larger than it actually is. This article offers tips and ideas that will open up your bath, making it more attractive and appealing.

The use of color and lighting can make a dramatic transformation in the look of your bathroom. Here are a few ideas, many of which you can put to use right now!

Use the Right Colors

Most people are aware of the fact that color plays an important role in the appearance and mood of a room. Dark colors tend to draw the walls in, making the spaces appear smaller. Light, bright colors visually enlarge a room, making it appear bigger than its actual square footage.

In your bathroom, use lightly colored neutrals and pastels to expand the room. Sand shades, creams and pastels such as peach and sky blue are all great colors for the bath. Walls and ceilings should be kept as light as possible, with contrasting (but still light) hues on baseboards and door facings. Bath rugs, shower curtains and window treatments should be kept light as well, with patterns or designs that include colors from the same palette.

Light Up the Room!

Lighting makes all the difference in whether a room looks dark and receding, or large and spacious. Natural light flooding through windows adds to the roomy atmosphere, and other lighting can enhance the effect. You may want to consider recessed lighting in the ceiling or additional lighting around the mirror over your vanity.

Mirrors help reflect light as well, and visually make the room larger because of the reflection. You might want to consider hanging an additional mirror on one wall, preferably where it will reflect the light from the windows.

Add More Floor Space

While it won’t actually give you more room to walk, removing your old vanity can make a tremendous difference in the appearance of your bathroom. Many vanities have cabinetry below, with doors, drawers, etc. for storing toothpaste, hair brushes and other necessities.

By removing the vanity and replacing it with a pedestal style vanity, you will be amazed at the change in the appearance of the room. A pedestal vanity takes up very little floor space, and adds a touch of elegance to the room at the same time. Find other areas where you can store your necessities such as a nearby linen closet. The improved appearance of your bathroom will make this small sacrifice worth the effort.

Are you ready to transform your tiny bathroom in to one that is inviting and spacious? Stick with light colors all over the room, add plenty of lighting and consider replacing your large vanity with a small pedestal sink. Little changes make all the difference!

Leon Tuberman has 4 decades of experience in the home furnishings and interior decorating industry.

One way to always keep your decor fresh and interesting is to change it according to the different seasons. When it comes to winter decorating, there are plenty of creative ideas. Although many people use the wintertime to decorate for the holidays, there are plenty of other ways you can simply decorate for the winter season. Read on for some great ideas to get you started on your winter decorating.

Decorate Your Home in Winter White
As wintertime approaches, you can turn your home into a white winter wonderland by bringing out your white decor items. White decor items can work to brighten up your home during those dark and dreary winter days and nights. Especially in winter, white also reminds of beautiful snowfalls. Its simple to add more white to your home in the winter. Just add white tablecloths, candles, and throws to your decor.

Hang a Winter Wreath in Your Home
Fortunately, wreaths are not just for Christmas. They actually make a great winter decoration that you can display from December to March. Consider making your own greenery wreath. Another option is to buy a pre-made one that matches the style of your home. The wreath can be decorated with items associated with winter: pinecones, white or flannel ribbon, and silver charms. The wreath can then be hung on the wall. When looking for a place to hang the wreath, do be sure that the wreath and the wall are comparable in size. After all, you dont want a tiny wreath on a huge wall with a great area of blank space, just as you dont want a huge wreath taking up all the space on a tiny wall.

Change Your Furniture for Winter
Changing your furniture for a winter decor doesnt necessarily mean you have to go out and buy a new set of furniture for every season. It just simply means that you might have to add or take away some items in the room. Adding slipcovers can be a great way to change up your furniture for the winter. Heavier-material slipcovers in a wintery color will look great on your couches and chairs. The furniture can then be decorated with winter-themed pillows. These pillows can be solid-colored or plaid. Or you might find some with snowflake or snowman pictures on them. Another simple way to add some winter style to a room is by adding a heavy throw to the back of a couch or chair.

Change Your Artwork in Your Home for Winter
Pictures displaying bright flowers may not be the most appropriate thing to hang on your walls in the wintertime. Consider storing these pictures away for the spring and summer, and hanging different pieces of art that give your home more of a wintertime feel. Any black and white photographs of nature, such as snow, trees, rivers, and mountains, are a perfect addition to a winter dcor. Or replace those bright and cheery flowers with painting that use more winter-like rich colors or a hand-painted picture of a country snowfall.

These are just a few of the many different ways you can create a winter dcor in your home. Its fun to change the look of your home to celebrate the different seasons of the year.

Don’t spend a fortune decorating your home. With a little creative thinking and an open mind, you can make a dramatic difference in the look and feel of your home. Impress your friends with these simple and inexpensive tips—they’ll be sure to think you’ve got an interior designer on speed dial.

Discover Thrift Store Treasures
Shop for “new” furniture at thrift stores, flea markets and garages sales, and reinvent your style with little cost. Whether you’re looking for that mid-century modern piece or something rustic-chic, it’s always exciting to see what budget-friendly hidden gems you’ll walk away with. It’s okay if the piece you find isn’t perfect. With a good sanding, a coat of paint or even new upholstery, a thrift-store treasure can be transformed into a work of art. As a bonus, when you go vintage, you go “green,” so you can feel good about your purchase.

Mirror, Mirror on the Wall
By positioning a mirror just right, you can add dramatic flair to any room. Adding a mirror to a small space can make it seem significantly larger, and mirrors can really intensify the light in a dim or shadowy room. You might try leaning a tall mirror against one of your walls. This will create an artistic focal point for the room. Mirrors tend to be inexpensive, and these smart and stylish accessories are sure to create a bold, eye-catching effect. Look for these fabulous accessories in places like discount stores, yard sales and on eBay.

Use Decals to Dress Up Those Walls
Removable peel-and-stick wall decals provide a unique and artistic way to dress up your walls, without the hassle, time and expense it takes to wallpaper or paint a room. This decorating solution is virtually foolproof, allowing you to go from drab to fab in no time at all by bringing a splash of color and high design to those boring white walls. With the variety of styles, color and sizes available, wall decals will allow you to let that inner designer loose, unleashing your own personal style in any room of the house.

Display Nature in Your Home
Decorating with plants is an affordable way to bring in the simple beauty of nature and wake up any space. Opt for plants that fit in with your décor to create a harmonious and Zen-like atmosphere. If your style is contemporary, then choose a plant with long, sleek lines for a modern look. Thanks to the variety of stylish planters available today in all sorts of shapes and colors, there’s no need to sacrifice function for style. You can even breathe new life into an old teapot or decorative bowl for a planter that puts your own personal touch on display.

Let the Light Shine
Good lighting that is strategically placed can completely transform the look of a room and significantly improve your mood. There’s no need to settle for harsh overhead lighting. Instead choose from a variety of more illuminating options, such as an attractive floor lamp with an ambient glow. Finding the right lighting at the right price is easy. The perfect shape and style to fit your décor is readily available at your local discount stores and secondhand shops. This simple yet powerful decorating solution will transform any room into a creative showpiece. Then you can bask in the warm glow of home-decorating success.

Have Fun with Fabric
With a little fabric you can update your home instantly. Try changing the fabric on key decorative pieces such as a sofa or chair, or incorporate new patterned throw pillows and curtains into the room for a unique effect. You’ll be surprised how inexpensive it is to experiment with fun patterns and textures that will wake up your space and give it a finished feel. For you craftsters looking to try your hand at DIY projects, such as making your own bed skirt or headboard, check out the discount table at your local fabric store or dig up some decorative quilts or bed sheets for inexpensive sources of fabric.

Become Your Own Curator
Fine art doesn’t have to cost a fortune, especially when you’re the curator. Got a vintage magazine with gorgeous black-and-white photos, or a beautifully illustrated book of botanical prints? Grab a sharp razor blade. Now you’re ready to transform these unconventional images into fine art for very little money. Photos from the same collection or that are the same size and theme can be grouped together on one wall to create a symmetrical, uniform look. Find some attractive frames that complement your creations for the perfect finishing touch.

Strike Up Some Style
Decorating with candles is a great way to add a touch of style, charm and warmth to your home for very little money. Try placing a candle in a decorative beaded holder for a more glamorous look. Or if you’re looking for a more illuminating effect, arrange several tea lights on a mirror. For a more natural, organic look, try arranging branches or greens around the candleholder. Candles to suit your style and budget can be found just about anywhere. Fabulous deals can be easily found at your local dollar store or neighborhood drugstore.

In the world of interior design, rustic décor is one of the most popular styles. This style of décor is warm and inviting, no matter if you live in a big city or a wooded rural area. Nothing creates that comfortable and welcoming feeling quite like a home decorated in rich, warm shades. Those who just adore natural wood are sure to love this style of decorating.

Rustic décor uses rich colors found in nature, such as shades of forest green, cream, and brown tones. Items such as walls, floors, ceiling fans, and furniture are often made of wood. Although hardwood floors are beautiful in any home, they are absolutely exquisite in this style. When thrown at the foot of the bed or in front of the sofa, braided accent rugs contribute to the homey, comfortable look and atmosphere.

For the Walls
Some types of paneling are outdated. However, you should be able to find wood panels that are applied horizontally, creating an amazing look. If you’d rather paint the walls, go with colors that are rustic. Paint only a couple of walls to add even more interest. For example, you can create some contrast by painting one forest green and another in a rich tan color. A perfect addition to a rustic décor style is a wall tapestry. Rich scenes of nature, mountainous terrain, and forest landscapes all make exquisite tapestries.

Furnishings for the Rustic Home
If you’re looking for the perfect complement for a rustic décor, you can’t go wrong with leather and solid wooden furniture. Any exposed wood on the sofa, love seat, or recliner should match your coffee and end tables. If you’re going to include furniture with fabric, dark green, rust, and creams go beautifully in a plaid or striped pattern. The key to this type of décor is to stick with colors and textures that mimic nature.

A long wooden pine or maple table would go great in the kitchen. All you need to do is add a bowl filled with fruit and your wood dining table will be complete. Mismatched wooden chairs or even benches are great seating options. Remember, the older and more worn the pieces look in this style, the better. You might accessorize your rustic-styled kitchen with a home rug placed in front of the sink area, stone and ceramic pots filled with sunflowers or herbs, and prancing roosters.

Don’t Forget to Accessorize!
When it comes to accessories for this type of décor style, you want to look for items with an antique or worn look. Once again, leather and wood make perfect accents, keeping the natural theme flowing throughout your home. A perfect addition to a living room or bedroom might be a distressed wooden trunk or an antique-style mirror. Search flea markets to find this type of mirror—even if what you find contains a few dings, it will only add to the rustic appeal.

Rustic décor is all about warmth, security, and family. With a rustic décor, you are creating comfortable, inviting spaces in your home, no matter where you reside. A home should make you feel warm, comfortable, and secure at the end of the day. You won’t find a home quite as welcoming and beautiful as one decorated in the rustic style. This is one style you will truly fall in love with, whether you’re in the country or the city.

Do you feel like the rooms in your home are outdated and could use an update? Perhaps your home is older, or maybe the look is just tired. Nonetheless, it’s possible to make your home look as though it’s been remodeled without spending much money at all. Your home is supposed to be your castle. Thus, you want it to be as welcoming, comfortable, and appealing as possible. Here are some super easy tips for giving the interior of your home a much-needed face lift while staying within your budget.

Painting: The Cheapest and Easiest Way to Transform a Room

Not everyone enjoys painting, but it can go a long way to creating beauty in a room. Paint can liven things up a bit, especially walls that are the average off-white or some other drab color. Pick a bold or bright color that blends with the overall color scheme and use it on a wall or two, as this will really jazz things up! If you have furniture pieces that have seen better days, why not paint them? Your ragged oak coffee tables and oak end tables will take on an entirely different look with a little paint and some stencils.

Take a Good Look at Your Furniture

How does your furniture look? Perhaps you are just tired of your furniture’s style, or maybe everything feels way too congested. It’s time to take a long, hard look at the room. Is it possible to take out a couple of pieces that are never used? This will open things up, giving the room a more open and airy feeling.

Slipcovers are a great option if you cannot afford new furniture. These days, you can find a variety of styles that allow you to create entirely new-looking furniture at a much lower cost than buying new. You also might consider repurposing the furniture. Do you have a few of those stray pieces in other rooms that are never used? Why not paint them and reuse them? You might even use them for a place to store games, toys, and other things that often get strewn all over, creating a messy or junky look.

Add Color, and You Add Life

Enough can’t be said about color when it comes to giving the interior of your home new life. Color both attracts the eye and creates different moods in a room. While bright colors energize, soft colors relax. If you have a monotonous color scheme, consider the addition of exciting color splashes. Throw in some brightly colored and intricately patterned rugs and pillows, and add some attention-grabbing accents to the walls. With splashes of color to break up the boredom, you won’t believe how your room is transformed.

Accessories Make the Difference

Women all know that accessories constitute the “jewelry” of the home. However, you need to know how to use them. With too many accessories, your home will look cluttered and disorganized. Use too few, and you’ll have a room with a cold, blank, and indifferent tone. Therefore, you need to find a balance.

Large rooms can often use the more personal, intimate look and feel that it gains simply by the addition of more accents. For instance, place a number of accents in a grouping on one large wall. Just the opposite is true for those smaller spaces. Here, an over sized decoration such as an intricately patterned tapestry should be placed on just one wall.

With the help of these tips, you can totally reinvent the look of your rooms. And don’t forget the added bonus that everyone loves—it’s not going to cost you a bundle to create those wonderful spaces!

Do all those design magazines showcasing rich, elegant-looking interiors make you dream of what it would be like to have the money to create such incredible settings? The truth is, most people aren’t going to have the budget or resources needed to create such a sumptuous look. What people don’t realize is that they can create a room that’s eye-catching and inviting without much expense-all they need is a little of their own unique personality.

Elegance without Expense
Most people think that it’s necessary to have a large budget in order to buy the new furniture, wall hangings, carpet, flooring, accents, and so on it takes to transform the look of a room. Fortunately, it’s possible to create a dramatic impact that doesn’t cost tens of thousands of dollars. With only a few hundred dollars, you can create a look that will equal any dream look you’ve seen in a home decorating magazine.

Make It Your Own
You can start by infusing some of your own personality into the décor. When many people decorate their homes, they look at the latest trends or go with what they think others will find attractive. Unfortunately, they typically end up with the isn’t really the look they were looking for.

Without any personal touches, the whole look is going to seem contrived. What you end up with is bland-colored walls, pictures that don’t really have any personal ties, and windows without any impact. All that “stuff” is there to make your home look exquisite, but somehow it just doesn’t work.

Create a Bold, Dramatic Look
Beside incorporating your own unique personality into your décor, what other steps can you take? Start by creating the atmosphere you desire with paint. Use up to 5 shades of burgundy, forest, and navy for a bold, dramatic look. Just be sure the color of your existing furniture will blend with the color scheme you decide on. Paint your baseboards with a darker shade, and use the lightest shade for the walls.

Add some rich window coverings and a few wall hangings, both which you can make yourself for almost nothing. For instance, you can use satin bed sheets to create some beautiful swag curtains. A great place to find unusual accents is a flea market. You might even ask your children to do some finger painting. Have them use colors that blend with and complement the décor. Then you can mat their work and frame it, resulting in some wonderfully colorful abstract wall hangings.

Let the Energy Flow
Are you looking to create a lively, energetic, and refreshing look? Choosing electric colors, you can use several shades of paint as in the previous description. For example, a wonderful color combination might be bright greens, peach shades, and burnt orange. Then you can display simple botanical prints on the walls or even on a oak dresser and perhaps a straw-colored woven rug for the floor.

You want your furniture to be light, not bulky or oversized. Furnishings, like a wooden coffee table or wood tv stand, should be light-colored and basic and design. Use a sheer material to create your own curtains or use something simple, such as wooden shutters. Remember to concentrate on a look that appeals to you. From there, you can imagine the possibilities.

Add Some Contrast
Contrast can add interest to any look. It used to be that you wouldn’t consider mixing those floral patterns with stripes and plaids, but now it’s become the thing to do. You can really add a wow factor to your décor by mixing things up, as long as you keep it within your color boundaries.

It’s possible to create a one-of-a-kind look on a shoestring budget. All you need is a little imagination mixed with some of your own unique personality.

If you’re looking to create a light, airy look in your home, cottage-style décor is a perfect choice. You can easily create a budget-friendly, comfortable, beautiful home with this type of decorating. It doesn’t matter what style of home you live in—you can easily transform your current look into a vintage look for very little money. Do you just adore rooms that look as though they float on the breeze? Then you should definitely try out this look, as you’ll be sure to love it.

Use Light Colors
Light colors are the key to creating this look. Many have the mistaken belief that the only color that should be used in this décor is white. The truth is, you can make the room light and airy while providing interest and depth with soft pastel shades of blue, aqua, yellow, pink, and green, combined with a healthy dose of white.

Make Great Use of Paint!
If you’re look to create a dramatic change in your home’s appearance, painting is one of the most affordable things you can do. Don’t be afraid to paint your walls in any of the pastel colors listed above. Paint opposite walls only and leave the other walls white for a truly original look. Then you can trim baseboards in a contrasting shade.

Paint is also a great way to create furniture that looks worn. For a vintage look, paint an end table or coffee table white or a pastel color and sand the edges lightly. You should be able to find some great bargains on small tables at garage sales and flea markets.

Surprising Floors
When most people consider flooring, they think of wood, tile, or carpet. In a cottage décor, wood floors are preferable. Any type of wood will do, although light-colored wood planks are best. You can choose to leave them as they are or paint them a shade of your choosing.

To create a unique and inspiring look, consider stenciling the perimeter of the floor or your own area rug. If you already have a carpet that’s light-colored, then that will work as well. Just use vintage-looking rugs to anchor your furnishings.

Create Interest with Furnishings
In terms of furnishings, you can use old or new. Try to keep the wood light in color if you’re going with new solid oak furniture. You can make furniture particularly warm and inviting by upholstering it with small pastel floral prints. Toss throw pillows on your sofa and chairs, mixing and matching the patterns. Absolutely anything you like will work.

For your wooden coffee tables, end tables and mission bookcases, you can really put your imagination to work. Are you able to get your hands on an old door? Then get creative, whether you decide to cut it down, paint, sand, or stencil it. Once you add legs, you’ll have a coffee table unlike any other.

Think Simple When You Accessorize
With this design style, accessories can be anything you like. However, you want to avoid overdoing it, as you don’t want to end up with rooms that look messy or cluttered. Just select a few simple pieces and display them around the room. A perfect touch here might be a simple white vase filled with wildflowers. This simply stack a couple of old books on an end table and place the vase on top. What would also work well here are small lamps with beaded lampshades.

When it comes to cottage décor, there’s really no rhyme or reason to this design style. Just be sure you love all the furniture and accessories you choose, and it will all end up falling together. Remember to have fun and enjoy creating this beautiful, inexpensive, new look.
